Research

Understanding aquatic biodiversity and fisheries

Research interests listed here reflect the supplied CV. Project details and current funding should be added only when confirmed.

Environmental DNA can help detect aquatic species from traces of genetic material in water. Combined with population genetics, biodiversity surveys, and spatial analysis, these approaches can contribute evidence for studying aquatic ecosystems and fisheries resources.

Environmental DNA

eDNA sampling and metabarcoding for aquatic biodiversity and biomonitoring.

Marine biodiversity

Species diversity in coastal, marine, reef, and mangrove ecosystems.

Fish population genetics

Genetic diversity and population structure of fish and shellfish.

Fisheries resources

Fish population dynamics, stock assessment, and fisheries resource management.

Ecology and environment

Aquatic ecology, coastal ecosystems, oceanography, and climate change.

Methods and tools

R, qGIS, molecular analysis, bioinformatics, and genetic analysis tools.

Documented research activities

  • Completed: eDNA expedition in the Sundarbans, January 2023. Read about the expedition.
  • Completed: eDNA sampling around Ko Racha Yai Island, Phuket, aboard the R/V Chakratong Tongyai, November 2023.
  • Research contribution: Associate on the Marine Biodiversity Portal of Bangladesh and Freshwater Biodiversity Portal of Bangladesh, 2023.
